Introduction

This document provides a brief description of the enhancements included within each new release of the software.


Release 11.1.3: Sept 29, 2023

This is a maintenance release to add features and/or correct the following issues.

a. Map Settings are now transferred when a scenario is duplicated.

b. Mandatory & Positioning Distance changes in “Simulation Settings” now transfer to SimTraffic.

c. Customization settings of Ribbon Bar are now saved as expected.

d. Follow up and Critical Gap time are now transferred when merging two Synchro files.

e. Some inconsistencies in the SimTraffic simulation related to “Entering blocked intersection” have been corrected. 

f. Users can now deselect all available runs in the SimTraffic “Select runs” window by unchecking ALL.

g. Synchro is now saving user defined detector templates.

h. The node “Description” field data is now saved to the .syn file.

i. Multi-run simulations in SimTraffic are now compatible with special characters in the scenario name.

j. While loading tiles in the “Offline Bing Maps” feature, some users experienced connection errors with an active internet connection. This has been corrected.

k. There were some inconsistencies in SimTraffic for right-turning vehicles. This has been fixed.

l. Link Display now includes link data for unsignalized intersections.

m. Lane/Movements Display now shows the link speed and DST in all directions.

n. Map settings are now populated with defaults when creating a new file.

o. Inconsistencies with different cycle length values for the same intersection using “Cycle Length” optimization buttons has been corrected.

p. Users can now run a SimTraffic simulation from a Box drive.

q. After a scenario change, using the F8 key to select an intersection did not reposition the map view as expected. This has been fixed.

r. Freezing issues have been corrected in the HCM 6th AWSC grid and when printing the HCM6 AWSC reports.

s. Geometry code now displays the correct HCM representation on the grid and report for 6th, and 2010.

t. Some issues with importing a TripGen file under TIA have been fixed.

u. 3DViewer reader mode now automatically opens the sample file.


Release 11.1.2: May 11, 2022

This is a maintenance release to add features and/or correct the following issues.

a. The users can now select/deselect all available runs to the SimTraffic Select Runs window to analyze results & create reports.

b. The users are now able to see the entire Node Settings grid in the Timing Settings window regardless of window resizing.

c. When updating the report settings in the Defaults.syn file, the changes to report settings are being saved now.

d. Link, Node, and Ln/Mvt result displays now function independently, so results can be displayed together on the Map.

e. When updating the SimTraffic calibration settings in the Defaults.syn file, the changes to SimTraffic Calibration Interval settings are now applied upon clicking the Defaults button.

f. Offline Bing Maps refresh button no longer causes exception.

g. For UTDF import/export the limit of Phasing Settings parameters now matches between Synchro & CSV.

h. There were some inconsistencies in displaying Lost Time Adjust and Future volume in Timing Grid. That has been fixed.

i. LOS outputs for some movements were not matching between HCM 6th/2010 Grid & HCM 6th/2010 Summary Report. That has been corrected.

j. For HCM 6th and HCM 2010 Detailed Text Reports Data columns are now lined up properly for long row headers.

k. In the previous version, there was an error when merging files by location with a new intersection. That has been fixed.

l. Some inconsistencies in HCM 6th Grid results for Approach LOS vs. Approach Delay have been corrected.

m. SimTraffic animations for multiple runs are now consistent with reports output.

n. In the previous version, pressing the "Undo" command was making the offline Bing background aerial disappear. This has been fixed.

o. When updating the report settings in the Defaults.syn file, the changes to report settings are being saved now.

p. Offline Bing map regions don’t disappear if the user aborts the map download.

q. The LOS icon is now consistent across the Ribbon Bar.

r. Canceling out of the Print Dialog caused Synchro to require a restart. This has been fixed.


Release 11.1.1: November 22, 2021

This is a maintenance release to add feature and/or correct the below mentioned issues.

a. When duplicating Scenario, Scenario Manger now copies the TIA data.

b. Network Settings default vehicle length now displays the correct value while loading ‘Defaults’ in metric units.

c. Synchro displays the offline Bing Maps with or without internet connection.

d. The Scenario Comparisons Report now displays scenarios in the same order as the Scenario Manager window.

e. In previous versions, HCM 6th Ed Signalized report in .txt format had some alignment issues. That has been corrected.

f. Storage Length under HCM 6th TWSC report now displays the correct value in metric units.

g. Node numbers are now visible on the Map View upon clicking “Show Node Numbers” under TIA Map Settings.

h. The support link within Synchro now navigates to the new support portal.

i. When making updates to a file saved on a network server, some users were experiencing slowdowns. This has been corrected.


Release 11.1.0: April 26, 2021

This release introduces enhanced capability of Synchro Studio for remote access. We simplify the licensing so user can now remotely access to Synchro Studio software.

The following corrections are also included with release 11.1.0.

a. While duplicating scenarios, Scenario Manger now copies all the map settings.

b. In previous versions, some keyboard shortcuts on Map View were not working as expected. That has been fixed.

c. In previous versions, the software no longer defaulted to the last model the user was working on when the user opens the software. That has been corrected.

d. When duplicating scenarios, Scenario Manger now copies the SimTraffic calibration parameters.

e. Improved capability of Bing Maps as background module of Synchro, reducing errors some customers have encountered their network proxy settings.


Release 11.0.168: October 26, 2020

This is a maintenance release to correct the following issues.

a. HCM 6th edition & HCM 2010 report now shows the correct LOS and Delay data for T-intersections.

b. In previous versions, there was an error while merging clustered intersections to un-clustered intersections or vice-versa. That has been tackled by showing proper warnings.

c. There was an issue due to merging two different files by location with the same node id’s. That has been resolved.

d. Sim Traffic is now representing the correct volume input data while using the 15-minute Volumes data from a UTDF Data File.

e. In previous versions, SimTraffic was not reading the customized calibration setup when opening a pre-version file in version 11. That has been corrected.

f. A correction was applied so that any change of the speed limit in the Timing Settings window, always matches the Lane Settings window.

g. Correction made to prevent the error when scenario name contains a non-numeric character at the end of the name.


Release 11.0.156: June 26, 2020

This is a maintenance release to correct the following issues.

a. The users can now use shortcut keys to choose the appropriate Lanes and Sharing selection.

b. HCM 6th edition & HCM 2010 report now shows the HV% for shared lane.

c. TIA module now shows the correct labelling for the Inbound and Outbound route.

d. In previous versions, the TIA module was not generating pass-by trips for all assigned driveways. This has been corrected.

e. User can now create a development in TIA using global date format.

f. The PHF in Network Settings now have the same range as PHF in the Volume Settings, which is 0.25 to 1.00.

g. Correction made to prevent errors while writing the MOE files using the append function under Transfer tab, for the intersections having U-turns and sharp left turns.

h. Modification in default.syn is now applying to SimTraffic calibration parameters.

i. In previous versions, the customized default.syn settings were not applied to any new file created via File>New. That has been corrected.

j. In previous versions, ATMS imported Signal Timing preview window was not displaying the exact Max Split value in some cases. This has been corrected.


Release 11.0.140: February 21, 2020

This is a minor maintenance release to correct the following issues.

a. Correction was made to SimTraffic’s multi-run reporting, ensuring consistent results.

b. A run selector dialog box was added to the process of SimTraffic multi-run report to make the run selection easier for the current scenario.

c. In previous release, the Scenario Time in Scenario Manager was getting reset inadvertently. This has been corrected.

d. A correction was made to importing UTDF data in SimTraffic.

e. In the previous release, there was an installer package conflict. That issue was resolved.


Release 11.0.0: December 9, 2019

This section outlines some of the major changes in the initial release of Synchro Studio 11. A full list of changes since Synchro Studio 10 to the initial release of Synchro Studio 11 is found in the Getting Started and What’s New in Version 11 document.

1. Scenario Manager – Synchro 11 introduces Scenario Manager which allows saving multiple scenarios to a single Synchro file to efficiently track each alternative. It also allows for quick switching between scenarios and easier analysis of results with different volumes and/or timings.

a. Scenario Manager allows multiple scenarios to be saved in single Synchro file, resulting reduced number of Synchro files needed for the same network/project.

b. The timing plan can be changed for each scenario individually.

c. Each scenario can contain unique volumes.

d. Changing geometry in one place automatically applies that same geometry to all scenarios in the file.

e. A new option has been added to the Network Cycle Length optimization process, providing the option to create a scenario for each optimized cycle length.

f. The merge file functionality has been updated to support scenarios.

g. Modifications were made to support multi scenario report.

h. SimTraffic has been updated to support multiple scenarios and allows for different calibration settings in in each scenario.

i. The user interface for Synchro has been updated to introduce new buttons to support Scenario Manager. A vertical button is included on the far-left side of the window to access Scenario Manager.

j. A scenario switcher with the drop-down arrow has been added in the middle of the menu bar in both Synchro and SimTraffic.

2. Bing Map – Synchro and SimTraffic 11 include a Bing Map as the default background.

a. The Bing map functionality includes a search bar to locate geographical location easily and efficiently without dragging the map to find the exact location.

b. A new button has been introduced to move the Synchro network with respect to the background map, and then anchor it in place.

c. The Bing map is now included when printing the Synchro map view.

d. The user interface for Synchro has been updated to introduce new buttons to support Bing Maps. A vertical button is included on the far-left side of the window to view the Bing Map related options.
